Dave Ramsey

July 23rd, 2006 at 03:48 am

I'm seriously thinking of talking to my DH about taking a Financial Peace class that's coming up in August. We believe in everything that Dave Ramsey teaches and listen to him pretty regularly on the radio. I just can't put a finger on what exactly is our problem with saving money. We don't ever go clothes shopping. I'm 7 months pregnant and haven't bought one single item of clothing in forever. I haven't even bought anything for the baby yet. My DH doesn't spend $ either. He comes home for lunch every day and rarely eats out.

I know that living on one income isn't easy. It just seems like a never ending cycle that we want to break. I have looked over our expenses and I am tackling one of the biggest ones now. Our grocery bill. I used to spend at least $250 every pay period (every 2 weeks or so). So far I have spent $130 on food.

This doesn't include $25 that I used to sign us up for a food program. I can't think of what it's called right now but it's run through a church and you get a ton of food. I have had a couple of people tell me about it and hopefully the food is of good quality. It'll make a serious dent in our grocery bill so hoping that it works out. I pick the food up on saturday so won't know for sure till then.

In my experience, it sounds like there is a bit of secret, hidden, or blind spending. Not ba spending, just untracked spending. Have both you and DH tracked everything that you've spent in the last month? DH especially.

The program might be called "SHARE". I tried it once 15 years ago. The food was good quality, but was of the type more useful for large families. After two months I decided it wasn't worth it for me. Try it for a month or two, it might work for you.

    Are you keeping a budget?

It is almost august. Keep every receipt for august and make note of anything you spend that you don't have a reciept for for that month. Then in September you can boss your money around by making a budget and sticking to it. I bet once you start paying attention to where your money is going your spending will decrease

I agree when I feel a hole in my pocket I start writing everything down.It may be a little harderr to get hubby to track everything-- but he could just make sure he gets receipts for everything--even 5.00 of gas.I like dave ramsey alot too.
Groceries have gone way up lately. Goodluck with your plans.

Honestly I think you do great with money Roxy, this is great that it is a concern to you. FPU is great I took it with John back when we got married in 1999. We weren't in debt really that I recall, we did it for our marriage and for something to learn at. I think your doing great! Just remember what I always do. Do I really NEED it or JUST WANT IT! Smile Hugs girl! Good luck with the little one on the way. Love Always
